    I play the Muvn Gruvn 13 mm and the Komodo Katana 16 mm. I believe they both would hold their own against the paddles mentioned here. I played lots of competitive ping pong and I gravitate toward short handle, wide bodied paddles. Solid list here.

    I just started pickleball 2 weeks ago and have only played a few games. The person who introduced me to the game only had straight wood paddles. Then, a local Pro Shop allows for loaning paddles for testing. I told the guy at the pro shop that at 60 years old, it's a bit hard for me to do fast deep bending. He suggested trying the Paddletek Tempest Reign Pro v3. Coming from a straight wooden paddle, I absolutely fell in love with this. However, I'm hearing everybody think that Paddletek makes crappy paddles. And I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't have purchased it. I'm definitely not a banger, and I play fairly strong game at the kitchen line, with decent reflexes and accuracy. For just starting out, people say I'm doing fairly well and would rate me a 2.5 or 3.0 player. I'm extremely confused on if I made a bad purchase or not. I would like to know what you think.

    Great review. Been a Ronbus fan ever since R1.16. Did you by any chance add lead to the R2FX? With the lighter SW, you could bring up those power numbers and have great pop. Just curious.

    but does it epically anime battle the shogun (if you can get one lol)? shogun is similarly described as having 'filthy' power while retaining control on softer shots (sweetspot improvement over the filth as well), with the titanium assisting the pop. the fx grid system seems to provide similar playability, staying flexible on softer shots but pocketing and launching the ball on drives- like providing 1 x 2 return on big swings and 1 x 1 on small swing.

    • @stspickleball
      @stspickleball 3 дні тому

      Shogun is solid! It would be a hard choice between the two. I’d say if you prefer a touch more power go FX and if you prefer a touch more control go Shogun. Both are higher swing weight 😊

    Definitely considering this paddle as it seems really hard to beat for the price. Do you find the shape takes some getting used to? I tend to play hybrid or elongated (16.5") paddles. We're really only talking about moving a half inch or so around, but I'm concerned I'll be hitting everything at the top edge for the first week. 😕

    • @stspickleball

    Not sure these are really Gen 3. The RPM's Speed Etc. are all in line with Gen 2 paddles. The true Gen 3's Oni, Joola, "Ronbus Ripple", etc. have Gen 3 tech with the trapoline effect.

    • @stspickleball
      @stspickleball 3 дні тому

      Gen 3 means a paddle that has innovated in tech or core structure beyond what Gen 2 offered. It has nothing to do with power specifically.

    • @stspickleball
      @stspickleball 7 днів тому

      14mm Mach 2 Forza has a larger sweet spot, better spin, and more stability. It's also cheaper :)

      @stspickleball What about maneuverability with a two-handed drive, volley, and dink? Those are my favorite shots.

    • @stspickleball
      @stspickleball 7 днів тому

      I have always found two handed shots to be a little harder to do with a standard shaped paddle. But still doable of course. I do prefer an elongated paddle though for 2 handed shots :) have you tried two handed shots with a standard shaped paddle before?

      @stspickleball I often use the ALW 12.7 Bantam-C, and it took me a bit to feel comfortable with the two-handed backhand. I do prefer a handle length of 5.3 inches.

    Steven. Thanks for this review. It was insightful for my purchase. I have a question and am a bit confused. The packaging says that it is "100% uv protection" but you say in this video that they are not polarized. How do you get UV protection without polarized lenses?

    • @stspickleball
      @stspickleball 7 днів тому

      It's a non polarized UV protection from what I understand. Visible light transmission (VLT) range is 15-83% and darkens to UV400 based on the amount of UV light exposure.

    • @CLAESSIC
      @CLAESSIC 7 днів тому

      @@stspickleball I guess that seems contradictory to me . I need to do more research. I guess I still don't understand what " polarized" means

    You mentioned that the benefit of higher TW when adding lead tape is larger for standard or wide body paddles vs the hybrid shape you tested but it would be interesting to see the numbers. For example, by adding 5” at the throat you added 0.6 to TW at the cost of 2.0 SW - what does that look like if done on a standard paddle?

    After a ton of “spin” on my decision making, I went with Viva G 3. Only because of your video. Dang nice seeing that price drop with your code. I bought it. U should mention this… P ball is beyond cheaper than golf. I can go to a public court and play top players. Friends spend a ton on golf. One racket is close to a day on the course plus lost balls. Anyway, I started last year. My first real paddle is the Franklin STK 17 mm. I still love this paddle. With 200 hour range of playing, it feels like it got even harder w the hits. Paid $40 at sierra (marshals). I got V G 3 just for the curiosity and love of the game. So, super excited to try this out. Yes, I was going to do the J2 but once I found out a few things on the logo and words on the paddle, I changed my mind.

    Love your reviews. 1) The TKO CX 12.7 hits more powerful than my gen 3 perceus 16mm, but I can't dink or reset with the TKO -CX 12.7mm. 2) I tried to use your STSPICKLEBALL code on pickleball central, but website states it does not exist. Am I entering the code incorrectly on pickleball central, or there was an expiration on that code? 3) will the TKO-C 12.7 mm have a slightly bigger sweet spot than the TKO CX 12.7mm? I feel the sweet spot on the TKO CX 12.7mm is not big, and off center shots the ball just dies as compared to the gen 2 paddles.

    Great review. I have a question. I'm an intermediate player who played tennis for 20 years and use a lot of topspin. I've gone through several paddles that have lost their texture/grit in the sweet spot after 2-3 months, which is incredibly frustrating because even being able to demo paddles won't tell you if they will wear down. (I am currently using a Volair Mach 2 Forza 14mm which seems to be maintaining pretty well.) Is this what you are referring to in the last part of the video when you mention "loss of spin"? And other than reading tons of reviews online is there a way to know what the durability (if that's the right word) for a paddle is regarding its spin? Thanks!

    • @stspickleball
      @stspickleball 9 днів тому

      I would say if you want to maintain the highest spin over time you'd have to go with a paddle using multi directional layers of carbon fiber and the only ones doing that to my knowledge is Gearbox specifically their Pro series. Otherwise it's all pretty relative as long as it's high quality T700 or Dupont Kevlar. If you play a ton and rip the ball like a tennis player it's going to wear down the face quite a bit. Oh! Actually the Proton paddles maintain their spin for a LONG time they actually have a lifetime warranty and have great quality paddles. You can get them on pickleball central I believe now and use code STSPICKLEBALL on their and if you don't like it just send it back.

    • @stspickleball
      @stspickleball 9 днів тому

      If you want spin and solid power I wouldn't go Mach 2 Forza as it's a control oriented paddle with less power. I would grab a TKO-CX 12.7mm Paddletek from Pickleball Central and use code STSPICKLEBALL and save a bit on it. It's incredibly if you're looking for power.

    Bought one after this and other reviews. Used your discount. Thanks STS! Great paddle overall, exactly what I was looking for and exactly as you described. Only downside is that the initial great spin went away very quickly (couple of weeks) and it’s completely smooth now. Seemed to lose that spin alot faster than my carbon fiber paddles. Still my favorite paddle overall despite now so-so spin.

    • @stspickleball
      @stspickleball 9 днів тому

      Interesting even when the face smoothed out a touch on mine it still has great spin when I have tested it and measured the RPM. Glad you like it though! I think the smoothing out creates a bit of a placebo effect but the spin is still solid.

    I have been playing with the Neonic Force per your review, and I really like it. I have had it for half a year and looking to change paddles. I have it narrowed down to either another Neonic or the Viva Pro Gen 3. I know its been awhile since you reviewed the Neonic but what would you recommend.? I have played with the Gen 2 and I liked it but felt it didnt have the pop the neonic had nor did it have as large of a sweet spot IMO. However I could effortless move between the 2 paddles .
